Meet our New Head Chef: Craig Johnston
After nearly four years in the Marcus Belgravia kitchen, we’re incredibly proud to announce Craig Johnston is now our Head Chef!
He joined our Michelin-starred kitchen in April 2018 as a senior chef de partie, fresh off his win of Masterchef: The Professionals in 2017. Since then, he's become an invaluable part of the kitchen, working his way up to Junior Sous, Sous and now Head Chef. As he was the youngest winner of Masterchef: The Professionals, Craig steps into this senior position at just 26.
In his new role, chef Craig Johnston will work alongside Marcus Wareing to ensure the smooth running of the Marcus kitchen.
Of the promotion, Marcus said: “Craig’s talent as a chef has shone through from the day I met him on MasterChef. Through determination and hard work, he has grown into a strong individual and a natural leader in the kitchen. Having given himself the time to develop and learn, I’m incredibly confident he’s ready for this next step.
He is deserving of this and every accolade and I can’t wait to see how he elevates the Marcus kitchen even further in this new position.”
Craig started his cheffing career at 16, working at a two-AA-Rosette restaurant in his hometown of Maidenhead. He worked his way up to sous chef, before joining the team at Pollen Street Social as a pastry chef. He returned to Maidenhead to join the Michelin-starred gastropub The Royal Oak as a sous chef, where he remained until joining our team in April 2018.
